Jigsaw Puzzles

Sublimation jigsaw puzzle blanks turn a photo into an activity rather than an object, which is why a photo puzzle holds more perceived value than a print of the same image. Photographers, personalized gift sellers and Etsy shops buy them by the case at about $1.85 to $14.28 per piece, and Photo USA is one of the best places to buy puzzle blanks wholesale.

What's in this collection

• 30 piece, 7.5 x 9.5 in: 280 per case or 400 per case, about $1.85 each.
• 110 piece: new style in 200 per case or 400 per case, from $2.09.
• 75 piece heart: heart shaped puzzle, 400 per case, $2.61.
• 252 piece, 10.5 x 13.5 in: 220 per case, $2.67.
• 500 piece: 50 per case or 40 per case, from $6.04.

Which puzzle piece count to start with

Piece count is an audience choice.

• Kids, schools and teachers: 30 and 110 piece puzzles with class photos or drawings.
• Etsy family photo gifts: 500 piece, the size adults expect from a gift.
• Weddings, anniversaries and Valentine's Day: the 75 piece heart.
• Low commitment tests: the 1000 piece, only 20 per case.

Puzzles arrive assembled. Tape the transfer on all four sides, press across the intact surface, and do not move it until cool, because any shift shows as a break across every piece.

How much can you make

Personalized 500 piece photo puzzles retail around $40, and Personalization Mall lists $39.99. For example, a 50 piece case of 500 piece blanks costs $302.00; selling them at $40 returns $2,000. For smaller puzzles, many sublimation sellers price finished pieces at 2.5 to 3 times total cost, so for example a $2.09 puzzle plus $1 of ink and labor priced at 3 times sells near $9.
